I would like to emphasize that Shiatsu, because of
its essence, transmits the spirit of Japanese and of their culture
through the learning, practicing or treatment. Without this deep
perception, Shiatsu turns out to be just a digital technique, a
method that substitutes acupuncture, putting the fingers over certain
points of eastern medicine, then reestablish the flow of energy.
Pitifully, it occurs that people with no medical
basic formation pretend to practice this method after two or three
weeks of short courses organized by certain eastern medicine centers.
For them, Shiatsu is just a business and represents an income.
In my experience I get surprise of deepness and peculiarity
of this therapy that has no equal in other therapies such as acupuncture,
osteopathy, chiropractic, etc.
Our environment is changing fast, because of our
technology like computers or cell phones. This mechanization with
a never reached speed thrust a new way of behavior: today everything
needs to be fast, everyone is in hurrycfastness is an unquestionable
valuecwe can not slow downcbut this constant race is
disturbing us and we are getting tiredc
This inducer's phenomenon of physical and psychological
stress is hitting deeply to every industrial society of the world,
Japanese society included. This sudden change of our lives rhythm
is exceeding us and generates many complicated pathologies which
treatment is about to explore in western medicine. Shiatsu is a
method that could have an eminent position to handle all these "modern"
illness which needs therapeutic tools.
"Applying pressures with hands and fingers"
seems to be a simple technique and almost primitive, but there is
a deep philosophy that lies beyond. We will have to keep on studying
how shiatsu, apparently a simple method, produces beneficial effects,
how a digital pressure can produce such a relief and such an improvement
of the organism? We will have to accept this fact with humbleness,
like it is, and try to transmit, for benefit of all Europeans, the
principle of this therapy that I consider almost as a Japanese traditional
art.
